Western blotting requires using of filter paper to ensure proper buffer wetting to the polyacrylamide gel as well as the PVDF before and during wet transferring.
However, over prolonged reuse of filter paper, it tends to have small cotton wadding on the surface which often cause small bubbles between the filter paper and the polyacrylamide gel or the PVDF membrane.
This would eaily cause artifacts in Western blotting due to small bubbles.

I will try to use finely weaved cotton textile used in baking as an alternative to the filter paper.
